After spending a summer of 46 dates together on tour with Sevendust, Soulidium formed a great relationship with the band. “Touring with Sevendust was amazing. We had so much fun and learned so many things about life, music, and the magic that can happen when music bears it’s full heart. All of them are so humble and down to earth, it’s like touring with family. I’d have to say that tour was my favorite of all time.”, says Soulidium vocalist Michael McKnight.

In March 2008, Witherspoon was recognized in Hit Parader as one of the “Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time.” He was ranked number 35, placing over numerous famous rock vocalists such as Bret Michaels, Scott Weiland, and David Bowie. During Soulidium’s tour with Sevendust, Michael and Lajon started talking about how cool it would be to do an a song together and finally agreed a year later on a date to get started. Lajon was excited when he got the demo of the track, and the two met up several months later at Lajon’s home in Georgia.

Sevendust producer Shawn Grove took a listen to the new song and immediately booked a session at Jan Smith Studios in Atlanta to track the session. The energy was perfect, and after a feast of sushi the 2 vocalists had a magical session that ended with an amazing track. Fly to the Sun is a powerful song that reminds us to aim high and dare to fly to heights above our comfort levels. Of their rock duet, an excited Lajon called the Awaken track and the rest of the album, “The key to the box.. That that kind of music box that uplifts spirits and makes us realize that we can achieve anything that we put our hearts and minds to.”
